Biography
Eva Svobodova first appeared in public in the early 1970s, as a vocalist for a succession of trad revivalist band: she worked with the Steamboat Stompers, Jazz Fidlers and Traditional Jazz Studio, before settling in 1975
for what to be and engagement of fifteen years with popular Classic Jazz Collegium. At the same time she went into the modern jazz. In this way she was much influenced by one of the
best piano players Emil Viklicky, who she had started to work with. It was not only him but also Karel Velebny and his SHQ. She made her recording debut in 1977, on a joint album with the legendary stride piano
player Ralph Sutton. Apart from occasional collaboration on projects involving other star jazz performers, including Wild Bill Davison, Benny Waters and the Sweet Substitute vocal trio, she appeared at the majority of
prestigious European festivals (Prague, Breda, Hannover Jazz Days, Warsaw Jazz Jamboree, etc.), as well as making countless guest appearances at leading jazz clubs around Europe.
Eva Svobodova made her first solo album, titled "Muj raj" (My Paradise), in 1983, suprisingly featuring two different backing up outfits led bythe home modern jazz scene´s toprandking pianists,
Karel Ruzicka and Emil Viklicky. The latter had already previously accompanied her onseveral occasions at club sessions launched by the SHQ of Karel Velebny, who in his turn was also among the guests of her debut album, alongside such other modern jazz luminaries as were Laco Deczi or the late Josef Audes.
Nowadays Eva Svobodova works with Krystof Marek Quartet and with the musicians of beginning jazz generation (Matej Benko, Jan Greifoner, Branko Kryzek etc.). She also addicts herself to preparing new talents as a teacher on State Conservatory of Prague - Pop and Jazz classes.
